Diagnostic assessment

The Cheshire Educational and Child Psychology Service diagnoses Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs) which are neurological differences that affect how individuals process and learn information, impacting various aspects of learning and daily life. These difficulties are not related to intellectual ability and can co-occur with other conditions. A common example is dyslexia.

In addition to assessing SpLDs, we also offer assessment of wider learning needs. The assessment of intellectual functioning and cognitive ability can help to provide an overview of a child’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses, which are important in determining if a learning disability might be present.

Dr O’Hagan works in partnership with the Cheshire Autism Diagnostic Service to assess and diagnose autism for children and young people.

NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines are followed for all assessments.
